I’m a freelance travel journalist (originally covering religion) and a writer for hire. I cover ecotourism, outdoor adventures, sustainability, and regenerative tourism. I frequently connect my writing to issues of climate change and stories that impact social justice. My work involves extensive interviews (domestic and global), research, and editing. My byline appears in The Daily Beast, BBC Travel, Canadian Geographic, Insidehook, Wanderlust Magazine, Business Insider, Sierra Magazine, The Hill, The Religion News Service, The Guardian, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, The Washington Post, and The Huffington Post.

I’m also author/co-author of nine books. My passion is to capture engaging stories, answering the “so what?” question every reader asks.

Whether I’m hiking at a national park, cycling a trail, or birding, I travel with my camera. I want my photos capture the imagination and encourage the viewer to explore the world around them. My travel pieces usually feature my photos. I also include them in my Instagram gallery.
